Fathers Day is not a holiday!

In fact I thought so. I learnt it is a misconception.

Then what is a Fathers day?
It is a day to honor not only your father, but all gentlemen who possess fatherly qualities.

The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington.

Sonora Dodd of Washington, daughter of William Smart, a civil war veteran, first proposed this idea.

One day, in 1909, she was listening to a Mothers Day sermon. She immediately thought of her father who acted as her mother too, since she lost her at her childhood.

Her father William Smart, living in a rural farm in eastern Washigton had to raise all his six children.

His daughter Sonora Dodd, was deeply moved by her father’s selfless love care.

Tidbits about Fathers Day.

Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law which finally made it permanent in 1972.
