The best pregnancy breakfast.

Whatever a pregnant woman eats, her baby eats the same. With this in mind always, carrying women should choose very wisely what they should and not give in to indulgences.

We have heard it often that we should eat breakfast like an emperor. It is applicable more for pregnant women. The quantity as well the quality matters. This would greatly impact on what you eat the rest of the day.

Start with fresh juice without adding sugar. Have one more.
Give a 5 minute break.
Eat the white part of a boiled egg without adding pepper.
Take at least 4 loaves of brown bread. Don’t toast.
Take two full tall glasses of milk. It should be lukewarm.

Foods to Avoid
Not all foods are safe during your pregnancy, there are a few things you should avoid eating:
Exotic fish varieties like  shark, as they are high in mercury
 Raw eggs
Coffee
Fizzy drinks

Many women have reported they really enjoy eating healthier meals even after delivering.

Potato Salads.

Ah, potato salads! That can beckon even children who cry ‘NO” to any vegetable salads that contain green vegetables that include cucumber, cabbage, carrot, lemon, capsicum etc. Not many of us like to eat raw vegetables-right?

Potato salad means it needs to be cooked which can be very tasty. Potato salads are more also known as side dishes than salads for they generally just precede or the follow the main course. Can we call them ‘starters’?

Last Saturday, we dined at a nearby vegetarian restaurant. We were served a large bowl of potato salad garnished creatively with baby corn, red capsicum and generous dose of mozzarella cheese.

I like them soft and crunchy. However, some like their potato salads mingled and just oozing with its dressing, some would prefer theirs to be really soft and tender, and others would want their potato salad to be crispy.

Potato salads are definitely a popular choice of all of us with no age barriers but of course with some exceptions that include diabetic.

Do you know what is DASH diet?

DASH Diet as the name suggests is for diabetics. I learnt about this diet when I took my husband to his diabetologist for routine check.

The doctor looked obviously proud of his knowledge. I believe every doctor takes pleasure when confronted with ignorant patients.

What is Dash Diet?
DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Hmmm... pretty long name-eh?

It appears this special diet got the approval of several doctors as it was found to effectively reduce the blood glucose level. In addition DASH also lowered cholesterol.

Since my husband is suspecting that his body is showing resistance to insulin, he thought he would try this new diet.

Are you curious to know what exactly does DASH diet include?

They are nothing but whole grains, high fiber vegetables that we, the spouses of diabetics are aware of.

Oh come on, there is nothing new here except the name that may sound fancy to those who just discovered they have diabetes.

There is plenty of free information online from the National Institutes of Health's National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.

There is also a bestselling book written by Maria Heller, MS, RD
